A Night In The Lonesome October Audiobook
What lurks in the shadows...? A haunting novel of love, loss... and flesh-eating trolls, from the undisputed master of the macabre, Richard Laymon. Perfect for fans of Dean Koontz and Clive Barker. 'One of the eeriest, and one of the most immediate, horror novels of recent decades' - Publishers Weekly Everything changed for Ed that day in the fall semester when he got a letter from Holly, the girl he loved: 'Dear Ed, ' it began, 'I will always cherish the times we had... ' Holly was in love with someone else. It was as if his whole world had changed in a second. That night, heartbroken and half mad with despair, Ed couldn't sleep, so he decided to go for a walk. But it's a dark, scary night in the lonesome October, and Ed is not alone... There are others out there in the night, roaming the streets, lurking in the darkness - wanting to show Ed just how different his world could be. Some of them are enticing, like the beautiful girl who wants to teach Ed about the wonders of the night. Some are disturbing and threatening.

Calabrese- Night In The Lonesome October. Lyrics:Let's go! We're the ones that'll take you down our plans to fight go to hell for what is ours (what is ours) Do you wanna die tonight Oh baby I'll show you what its like Like a Bat in flight Mortals go to hell We're already dead hypno eyes will turn virgin minds will burn taste of blood tonight She's only 19 And she's a horror queen Not the kind of girl you bring home to mother She'll rip your heart Just like the others taste of blood tonight. Disclaimer: I don't own this song it's property of Calabrese and Spookshow Records.
I'd said, but I'd taken on the job quickly enough. I hadn't played the Great Game for many a year and in truth, there just wasn't enough excitement to be had in Tooting, not even on a Saturday night… "Mother of Monsters", by Joshua Wanisko: The blob creature fell upon her as she exited through the front entrance. At first I thought someone was playing a joke: the child's prank, where a bucket full of water is balanced atop the door, and spills its contents on the first unfortunate to open it. My students played that trick on me once. But as she began dissolving, clothing, skin and muscle all melting away, like wax in a sudden inferno, the true horror became apparent. In my memories, it stretches on for hours, but in reality, it was merely moments. She turned towards me ponderously, with something almost like serenity, her head tilted slightly as if she couldn't understand what was happening. How could she? Her brain was melting. I could see it… "The Bells of Northam", by Josh Reynolds: The thing in the casket sat up with a creak of ancient bone and dried flesh, as the bells of Northam rang loud, long and triumphant.
Should the Closers win, then the world will remain as it is until the next turning... but should the Openers succeed, then the Great Old Ones will come to Earth, to remake the world in their own image (enslaving or slaughtering the human race in the process). The Openers have never yet won. These meetings are often referred to as "The Game" or "The Great Game" by the participants, who try to keep the goings-on secret from the mundane population. The various "Players" during the Game depicted in the book are archetypal characters from Victorian Era gothic fiction – Jack the Ripper (only ever referred to as "Jack"), Dracula ("The Count"), Victor Frankenstein ("The Good Doctor"), and the Wolf Man (known as " Larry Talbot ", the film character's name) all make appearances. In addition, there is a Witch ("Crazy Jill"), a Clergyman (Vicar Roberts), a Druid ("Owen"), a "Mad Monk" ("Rastov" – apparently modeled after Rasputin), and Hermetic occultists ("Morris and McCab" – often mentioned as a reference to a real hermetic of the time, MacGregor Mathers).
In a different sense, much of the book is spent trying to figure out who is on which side, and there are some surprises before the end. Someone the reader thinks is a hero may turn out to be a villain or vice versa. For that matter, all named Closers are more or less traditional antagonists. Virgin Sacrifice: Lynette is intended as one, but is rescued by the Great Detective, with the assistance of Snuff and Larry. Would Not Shoot a Civilian: Not only humans. Familiars tell normal critters to stay the hell away and some are outraged when mundane animals-- who were actually called "civilians" --catch fallout from the Game, such as crossbow bolts. I remember him laughing more, and smiling a lot more, and one night him telling me, "I don't think I've had this much fun writing in years. " "He Knew Not the Month Was October", by Zach Shephard: The next day was October 31st. It was the day the world's fate would be decided, in a winners-take-all ritual that would either banish the Old Ones to another dimension or allow them to keep terrorizing our planet for the next few decades. Ricou was the only Player on our side of the struggle. He was the lone banisher against a trio of strong protectors. But if I couldn't find a way to heal his diseased mind, he'd be useless to us. We'd lose. The Game would be over, and with the world's human population almost entirely eradicated already, we'd probably never get another chance to play again; the Old Ones and their tentacled horrors would remain unchecked indefinitely, and life as we know it would be a thing of the past. I had until the moon was full in the sky to fix my broken master. Less than a day to save the world… "Crash the World", by Derek Ferreira: He turned to face me, an imposingly massive form, easily broader than Ava and I put together.
